Sid Bryson -

Crest played host to the Kings Mountain Mountaineers in a S.M.A.C and Cleveland County showdown. Both teams entered this game struggling in recent weeks and for most of the game all that continued, at least offensively. Crest received the opening kickoff and started on its own 20, and two plays later found it’s self on the KM 35 yard line, three plays later the drive stalled and Evan Davis kicked a 39 yard field-goal giving Crest  a quick 3-0 advantage.

From there it was pure comedy with flags and fumbles. Kings Mountain fumbled the ball three straight possessions, but Crest could never capitalize. The Crest offense constantly found its self in slow motion and going backwards. Midway through the second quarter Crest drove the field and took a 10-0 lead when QB Cameron Peeler found wide-out Tyshun Odom on a quick out and Odom took it in from around 10 yards out.

On KM’s very next possession the Mountaineers stuck quickly as QB Kaylon Wade hit Madisyn Bolin down the middle for 52 yards making the score 10-7 in favor of Crest. In the second half Crest took a 13-7 lead on another Davis field goal, this time from 25 yards out. The Mountie offense finally put some things together behind the legs of Ricaylen Mack. Mack gave KM a 14-13 lead after a 43 yard run where he assaulted many Charger defenders along the way.

Late in the fourth, KM put together a brutal 61 yard drive and took a 21-13 lead after Mack plunged in from 14 yards out. The Crest offense came to life for one last drive and scored when Peeler took it in from 11 yards out with about a minute to go. Crest lined up for two, but Peelers pass was no good as the receiver slipped and fell. Kings Mountain earned its first victory over Crest since 1998.

Crest will look to get back on track as it travels to East Burke.

The Wolves traveled to face the Bandys Trojans on this misty Friday night. At stake was their unblemished record and their share of the lead in the SD-7 Conference.

The first quarter would see the Wolves strike first when Cordel Littlejohn would take it in from 6 yards out on a QB keeper and give the Wolves a 6-0 lead. The Bandys Trojans would strike right back with Andrew Mosteller finding paydirt from 14 yards out with 4:45 left to play in the opening quarter. A two point conversion gave Bandys their first lead of the night and an 8-6 advantage. That lead would last less than a minute when Lincolnton's Xavier McClain went 22 yards for the score and a 12-8 Wolves lead with 4:03 left to play in the first quarter.

The second quarter appeared to be a stalemate, but Lincolnton's Xavier McClain would finish off a 74 yard drive after a Bandys turnover. After a Cordel Littlejohn to Sage Surratt two point conversion, the score was 20-8, advantage Wolves. The Trojans would fumble the ball in the final minute of the half with Lincolnton's Jamaal Littlejohn recovering in the endzone for the defensive TD. The Wolves took a 26-8 lead into the half.

The Wolves added more points to the board in the third quarter when Xavier McClain flashed for a 78 yard TD run with 4:16 left to play and a 33-8 lead. The Trojans Zeke Kennedy would answer on the ensuing kickoff going 85 yards at the 4:03 mark to cut the Lincolnton lead to 33-14. The Wolves would round out the third quarter scoring when Cordel Littlejohn connected with Langdon Givens on an 18 yard pass with 2:48 left to play in the quarter. The Wolves would take a 40-14 lead in to the final quarter of play.

The final quarter started with a Cordel Littlejohn to Yung Sherrill passing TD with 11:04 left to play, running their lead to a 47-14 advantage. The Trojans would strike back with Jarrod Kisser finding the endzone from 28 yards out and cutting the Lincolnton lead to a 47-20 advantage with 4:12 left to play. The Wolves would strike back with Sincere Pearson going 69 yards for a rushing TD and giving the Wolves a 54-20 lead. The Trojans would wind-up the scoring frenzy for the game with Travis Russell going 38 yards to the endzone with 29.5 seconds left in the game. The two point conversion would give us our final score, a 54-28 Lincolnton win.

The Lincolnton Wolves improve their record to 7-0 on the season and will host Bunker Hill next Friday night.
