Boiling Springs - The Crest Chargers hosted the T.C. Roberson Rams at Sid Bryson Stadium and looked to improve to 3-0. They would do just that. Crest would struggle at times tonight, there are no excuses over in this part of Cleveland County but the Chargers started 7 sophomores, it's fun to watch them grow each week.

The Chargers took the opening kickoff but were quickly forced to punt. The Rams ran the punt back 96 yards but the play was negated by a block in the back TCR could do nothing and punted back to Crest. Crest facing third down and forever took to the air and Tyshun Odom out jumped a Rams defender for the catch  goes 73 yards for the first score of the game, the extra point hit the goalpost leaving Crest with a 6-0 lead.

TCR drove down to the Charger 10, but fumbled and Crest retook possession on its own 9 yard-line. Crest could do nothing and the first quarter ended with the Chargers up 6-0. TCR took a 7-6 lead after driving the field and plunging in from 1 yard out. Crest would retake the lead when QB Cameron Peeler found Odom again. Odom raced 33 yards for the score, Crest went for two and Peeler found Jarius Strong in the corner of the end-zone, giving Crest a 14-7 lead. Evan Davis added a field goal at the end of the half giving Crest a 17-7 advantage at the break.

The only scoring of the second half was another Davis field goal giving Crest a 20-7 lead with five minutes to go. The Crest defense stood tall all game with three sophomore's manning the line , and all American linebacker Justin Foster sidelined for the second straight week.

Crest moves to 3 and 1 on the young season.

East Gaston...The Wolves rolled into their game with East Gaston riding a 3-0 record and very eager to escape this game with their unblemished record intact.

The first quarter of action would see the East Gaston Warriors get picked on their opening possession by Lincolnton's Sage Surratt. The Wolves Xavier McClain would make that interception sting after scampering from 31 yards out to put the Wolves on the scoreboard with 10:27 remaining in the first quarter. The Sam Taylor extra point made the score a 7-0 Lincolnton advantage. The Warriors would answer that score with a little defensive wizardry of their own when Jonathan Eggers scooped up a Wolves fumble and returned it 7 yards to tie the game at 7-7 early in the first quarter. The Wolves didn't waste time answering the defensive score. With 7:02 left in the first quarter, Lincolnton's Cordel Littlejohn would hook up with Langdon Givens for a 22 yard TD pass play giving the Wolves a 14-7 lead. Not wasting any time, the Wolves Xavier Littlejohn would add to the Lincolnton lead with a 12 yard TD run with 4:07 left to play in the first quarter. The extra point attempt would fail and the Wolves advantage stood at 20-7. The Wolves would add one more score in the first quarter when Lincolnton's Cordel Littlejohn found paydirt on a 10 yard QB keeper with 0:46 left to play in the opening quarter. The Wolves two point conversion would fail and the first quarter would come to an end with the Wolves enjoying a 26-7 lead.

The second quarter would be much like the first, with the Wolves seemingly scoring at will. The Wolves first score of the second quarter would come via the air when Lincolnton's Cordel Littlejohn found Langdon Givens for a 36 yard passing TD with 8:12 left to play. The successful two point conversion happened when Cordel Littlejohn found the kicker, Sam Taylor, in the endzone, making the score 34-7 Wolves. The Wolves Xavier McClain would score from 9 yards out on a run with 1:46 left in the half. The Sam Taylor extra point gave the Wolves a 41-7 lead. The Wolves weren't done yet. With 0:54 left in the half, Lincolnton's Sage Surratt would get his second interception of the night, and he would make this interception a pick six after returning it 32 yards to the endzone. The Sam Taylor extra point would bring the first half of play to an end with Lincolnton building a 48-7 advantage.

The Wolves would waste no time starting the third quarter with a bang. With 10:03 left to play in the quarter, Lincolnton's Xavier McClain would take the ball 64 yards to paydirt. The score would stand at 54-7 after a bad snap negated an extra point attempt. This score, however, would bring the continuous clock into play, and the third quarter would end with the Wolves comfortably ahead 54-7.

The fourth quarter would see the Wolves making wholesale substitutions on offense and defense. The lone score of the quarter would happen when the Warrior's Benfield finding Farrins on a 66 yard pass leaving us with our final score, 54-14 Wolves.

Belmont...The Lincolnton Wolves rolled in to Belmont with one thing on their minds, a big win in a big game. A win over the highly ranked 3A South Point Red Raiders would certainly fit the bill.

The Wolves would waste no time in their upset bid, with Lincolnton's Xavier McClain taking the games first snap 77 yards to paydirt with 11:40 left in the first quarter. The Wolves would add to that total on a Sam Taylor 21 yard FG to give the Wolves a 10-0 advantage. The first quarter came to an end with the Wolves up 10-0.

The second quarter would see the Red Raiders answering the bell with a trio of scores. The Red Raiders QB Scottie Lee would get the scoring started with a 19 yard scramble for a TD with 10:27 left to play in the half. The Raiders would then capitalize on a Wolves turnover with a 33 yard FG from Thomas Lempereur with 8:14 left to tie the score 10-10. The Raiders QB Scottie Lee found Nick Muse on a 29 yard pass to put the Red Raiders up 17-10 with 1:17 left in the half. The Raiders entered halftime with a 17-10 lead.

The third quarter found the Wolves looking for an answer to the second quarter scoring frenzy from the home team. That answer came when Lincolnton's Xavier McClain took the Wolves first second half snap 91 yards to the end zone with 8:57 left in the third quarter giving us another tie at 17-17.

The fourth quarter would see Lincolnton throwing an interception inside the South Point five yard line, and South Point throwing an interception at the Lincolnton one yard line. This game was headed for overtime.

In overtime, the Red Raiders would score via a Scottie Lee to Nick Muse 8 yard pass. The Red Raiders were in the lead 24-17 after the successful extra point attempt. Then, it was the Wolves turn with the ball. The Wolves would answer the Red Raider score with the Wolves QB Cordel Littlejohn scrambling for 7 yards and a Lincolnton TD. Would the Wolves go for the win? Much like his predecessor, Scott Cloninger, Lincolnton head coach Ledford Gibson elected to go for the win on the road. The two point conversion attempt found Lincolnton's Cordel Littlejohn buying just enough time with his feet to find a wide open Tyreke Hollis in the end zone for the 25-24 overtime win.

What's Up Next: The Lincolnton Wolves (2-0) host the North Gaston Wildcats (0-2). The South Point Red Raiders (1-1) are on the road facing the Shelby Golden Lions (2-0).

Boiling Springs - Sometimes football is flat out brutal to watch, and sometimes there is not much to say, about what you see. Crest played host to the Green Wave of Ashbrook High School. Crest was coming off it's first loss in 32 games, a 27 - 12 loss to South Point. The Chargers could only improve on that performance, I guess.

After trading punts, Crest decided to change QB's as Crest subbed in 6'2 242 pound Peyton Kemmerlin for Cameron Peeler on its second drive. Kimmerlin, on second down somehow eluded a pas rusher and found Ty McLaurin on a short pass.and McLaurin, made the rest happen as he took it 47 yards to the house for a Charger 7-0 advantage.

Crest went up 14-0 later in the half when Mclaurin took a punt and rolled 51 yards for the TD. That would be it for the Chargers as far as scoring on the night. Ashbrook made it 14-7 right before half as the Wave QB threw and 18 yard TD pass with 18 seconds left, sadly that would be it for the scoreboard for the rest of the game.

The second half was, let's say, boring. As both teams traded punts, turnovers, and penalties. Ashbrook drove to the Charger 45 with 1:30 left but the drive ended when Justin Foster intercepted the ball and returned it to midfield. Crest took a knee and went to 1 and 1 on the young season.

Crest is on a bye next week. See you in two

Pumpkin Center…. North Lincoln opened the game driving down the field and scoring.  The score was taken off the scoreboard due to a penalty.  Lincolnton’s defense then stopped them and took over.  From that point it was all Lincolnton.  Lincolnton scored at will in many ways.  Most people thought Lincolnton’s passing game would be much improved this year with Cordel Littlejohn with another year under his belt plus the addition of Sage Surratt and with Langdon Givens returning.  It looked like Lincolnton wanted to work on that tonight.   Lincolnton didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard as Cordel Littlejohn threw a 60 yard touchdown pass to Langdon Givens.  Lincolnton’s defense held.   The ensuing punt was returned 72 yards by Tyeke Hollis for a touchdown. Lincolnton then decided to run as Xavier McClain scored  Lincolnton’s first rushing touchdown of the year on 10 yard run making the score Lincolnton 21, North Lincoln 0 with 10:37 2Q .   The next series was Sage Surratt’s turn as he hauled in a 16 yard pass from Cordel Littlejohn in the end zone.   On North Lincoln’s next punt Givens returned it for another 72 yard score with 4:51 left in the 2nd quarter.  Lincolnton found another way to score on North Lincoln’s next drive.  Jamal Littlejohn striped the ball from the ball carrier and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown.   North Lincoln scored their first touchdown of the year on a 42 yard run by Stevie Jackson with 2:27 left in the 1st half.  Lincolnton then went to work on its two minute offense.  Lincolnton drove down and scored on a 1 yard run by Xavier McClain as time ran out in the half.  Xavier McClain opened the scoring in the 2nd half with another 1 yard run.  Xavier wasn’t finished  as he added a 51 yard touchdown run with: 48 with in the 3rd. Lincolnton defeats North Lincoln 63-7.   Next week North Lincoln will play West Lincoln.   Lincolnton will travel to South Point.

Belmont - Crest came into tonight's opener against South Point with a 32 game winning streak, they left with a one game losing streak. Crest looked unprepared and young, losing 22 seniors will have that affect.

South Point took a  7 to 0, at the 3:32 mark of the  1st quarter when Scottie Lee scored a 4-yard TD run which capped a 15-play, 70-yd drive for SP after Ty Tinker intercepted Crest QB Cameron Peeler

The Raiders forced a Crest punt which was blocked and made it 14 - 0 as Scottie Lee hit Nick Muse from 20 yards out on 3rd down. The Crest offense was stagnant all night long, and South Point made it 17-0 after a 30 yard field goal from Thomas Lempereur., Lempereur made it 20-0 as time expired in the first half when he nailed a 24 yarder.

Chapel Hill - Crest came into Chapel Hill looking for back to back State Titles. In 2014 they went 16-0 and captured the 3A State Title. In 2015 they would battle the last team to defeat them, The Southern Durham Spartans, for the 3AA Title.

Crest's offensive line manhandled the Spartan Defense all day long, and Tre Harbison did what he does, and this one wouldn't be close.

Crest won the toss and differed it's option. SD took the kickoff but only managed their own five yard-line. The Crest defense would force a three and out. The punt was partially blocked and Crest was set up at the SD 20. SD forced Crest to attempt a filed goal attempt and the Evan Davis  kick was good making the score Crest 3 - SD - 0. On it's next possession SD marched down the field converting several 3rd downs and capped off the drive with a Jordan Brown TD pass to take a 7-3 lead.

Crest had a great kick return setting the Chargers up at the Spartan 35 and on 3rd down running back Tre Harbison exploded for a 31 yard TD run, making the score 10 - 3 Crest. SD drove down the field again and were set up first and goal, but could never get in. Crest linebacker Justn Foster sacked Brown and that forced a 4th and goal from the 30, Crest held and took over on downs. Crest moved down the field and Harbison punched in it from 2 yards out making the score 17-7, Crest.  Crest would move the lead to 24-7 as Harbison broke free, this time from 72 yards out. This run made Tre Harbison Cleveland County's all time leading rusher.

Crest made the score 31-7, when once again Harbison, rambled 39 yards, for his 4th TD of the half. (Incredible performance). SD would not quit. The Spartans moved down the field and on 4th and goal Brown goes in from the 2 making the halftime score Crest  31- SD -14

On it's first drive of the second half, there was nothing else to do, but feed the monster, and that is what Crest did. Pounding the SD with Harbison over and over again, Crest methodically moved down the field. Once inside the SD five Harbison pounded the ball over and gave Crest a 38 - 14 advantage. The Charger defense stepped up and forced another 3 and out. After a 57 yard pass from QB Willie Green to Wesley Bullard Harbison went in for his 6th TD to make the score 45-14 Chargers.

SD would intercept a Green pass and return it to the Charger 1, and Southern scored from there to make it 45-21, Crest. Crest would add another TD as Harbison raced in fro 26 yards out, for his 7th TD of the game...... Crest added a late field goal to make final Crest 55 - Southern Durham 21

Tre Harbison wrapped up his High School career with 24 carries and 295 yards and SEVEN TOUCHDOWNS.

Crest won its 32 game in a row, and avenged the loss to the Spartans in the 2013 3AA Title game..
