Crest 27 - Chase 12 PDF Print E-mail
Written by JP
Friday, 02 October 2015 20:27

Boiling Springs - Crest came into this rainy night looking to go 6-0 on the season and 22 for their last 22 dating back to last year. A combination of rain, wind, and penalties and, sportsmanship made this one tighter than it probably should have been.

Crest was lethargic the entire first half. Numerous holding calls and, fumbles led to a 7-6 halftime lead for the Chargers. Chase would score first after Tre Harbison's second fumble deep in Crest territory. Chase plowed in from 3 yards out and led the defending 3A champions 6-0 after the extra point was botched.

Crest would take a 7-0 lead when QB Cameron Peeler found Wesley Bullard on a 20 yard strike in the back of the end-zone and that would be the score at halftime.

The third quarter was the Tre Harbison show. Harbison would score twice as Crest used him as a workhorse, running him over and over into the teeth of the Trojan defense Crest built a 21-6 advantage on Harbisons legs. The Chargers made it 27-6 when Peeler found Bullard again, this time from 30 yards out.

Crest had control of the ball in the last minute of the game and took two consecutive knees giving the Trojans the ball with 14 seconds left, time enough for one more play. Chase has a special needs player on its team, his name, Brendan Wright. What happened next made the cold, the wind and the rain worth every second. Chase handed the ball off to this fantastic kid and he busted through the vaunted Crest defense line, past the linebackers and into the secondary on his way to a 67 yard touchdown. When he reached the end zone the entire Crest and Chase rosters and coaching staffs celebrated with him.

I've witnessed many things over the years watching Crest football games. I've seen every State Title game, I've saw monumental performances, and watched players who played at Crest play in the NFL on Sunday's, but this was the best moment of them all.

Sportsmanship at its finest. It was the best touchdown run I have ever seen.

The Chargers will look to go 7-0 when they travel to Kings Mountain Next Friday.

Skyland - Crest won it's 20th consecutive game in somewhat sloppy fashion tonight when they traveled to take on the T.C. Roberson Rams. The #1 ranked 3A team in the State looked lethargic on offense with three straight three and outs to begin the game. The Chargers finally got going at the four  minute mark of the first quarter when QB Willie Green hit Tyshun Odom on a 41 yard strike to give Crest a 7-0 lead.

Crest would make it 14-0 when Tyriek Ramseur picked off a Ram pass and returned it 32 yards. TCR was forced to pint on its next possession. Crest took over and after 2 consecutive holding penalties the Chargers found themselves way behind the chains. Willie Green took the snap and promptly found senior running-back Tre Harbison on the screen pass. Harbison did the rest of the work taking the ball 91 yards for the score the extra point gave Crest a 21-0 advantage.

TCR was again forced to punt, Ty McLaurin returned the punt 73 yards and just like that Crest had a 28-0 lead. The Chrgers would make it 35-0 right before the half when backup QB Cameron Peeler scored from 46 yards out on a keeper. The second half was marred by numerous penalties. TCR managed a TD and a field goal, and Crest would add a field goal making the final Crest 38 - TCR - 10

Lincolnton-  1-1 East Gaston visits 2-1 Lincolnton.  East Gaston after two games was averaging 42 points and Lincolnton after three games was averaging 39.  With those averages you would expect a high scoring game and this game did not disappoint.  East Gaston jumped out to a 26-7 advantage and seemed to have control of the game when the game was delayed by lighting with 9:09 left In the second quarter.   Something woke Lincolton’s defense and offense up during the lighting delay.  Lincolnton came out after the lighting delay and outscored East Gaston 36 to 7.  Lincolnton took their first lead with three minutes left in the third quarter as Willie Cobb scored on a one yard run.  Jordon Easter ran in the two point conversion giving Lincolnton a 36-33 lead.  Lincolnton would drive down to the 2 yard line and fumble.  East Gaston then drives down the field but the drives ends on a missed field goal that would have tied the game.  Lincolnton would then drive and score on a 32 yard run by Tarus Dameron giving Lincolnton a 43-33 lead.  That would be the final score.  This game futured a bunch of offense  76 points and 993 total yards.   East Gaston’s Alex Adams was 23 of 34 passing with 398 yards and 3 touchdown passes.  Lincolnton’s Tarus Dameron had 18 carries for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns.   Lincolnton will be at West Lincoln next week.

Boiling Springs - The Crest Chargers opened S.MA.C. play tonight as they hosted the 2-1 Draughn Wildcats. This game was delayed due to lightning and did not kickoff until 9:30pm. Crest the defending 3A State Champions were looking for its 19th straight victory.

Crest received the opening kickoff and drove down the field and took a 7-0 lead when Tyriek Ramseur took the hand off around left end for 29 yards. Draughn moved the ball well on its first possession moving to the Charger 30 yard line, but the drive stalled and forced a wildcat punt. Crest took over on its 21 yard line and on the first play of the drive senior QB Willie Green found Wesley Borders over the middle for a 79 yard TD pass the extra point made it 14-0 Crest.

Crest made it 48 - 0 on its first possession of the 2nd half and the running clock kicked in. Draughn managed a TD on the Crest 2nd unit late in the 4th, but the Changers answered right back to make the final Crest 54 Draughn 7.
