The  Sid -  I have saw some crazy football games in my time, but this one ranks right up there. It had it all.  The Crest High Chargers played host to the East Rowan Mustangs in the first round of the 3a playoffs and let’s just say, there were more flags, fumbles, and points than one could imagine.

The 4-8 East Rowan team returned three Charger fumbles for scores. A 38 yard score by East’s Jake Gregory cut the Charger lead to 33-26 in the 3rd quarter. East had two other fumble returns for TD’s on the night Raequan Gibson had a 65 yard return and Deiontae Gallmon had a 53 yard return for a score.

The Chargers despite the turnovers and 115 yards in penalties managed to roll up 669 yards of total offense. Senior wide-receiver Tyshun Odom hauled in 12 catches for 272 yards and running-back Tavian Brintley had 190 yards on 14 carries.

East only scored three TD’s with its offense, and one of those came after another Charger fumble that set the Mustangs up inside the Crest 10, they added one late with the reserves in. Crest managed to have over a 20 point lead four different times on the night, but the turnovers turned this one in to a high scoring affair.

Crest won its 24th straight opening round game and its 17th straight   playoff game at home.

The Chargers travel to play West Rowan next Friday in the 2nd round

After trading punts, the Wolves were the first team to put points on the scoreboard when Cordel Littlejohn found Sage Surratt from 6 yards out with 5:28 left to play in the opening quarter. The Wolves Cordel Littlejohn would strike again through the air in the first quarter, this time finding Langdon Givens from 76 yards out with 2:46 left to play in the first quarter. The first half drew to a close with another Cordel Littlejohn to Sage Surratt TD reception, this one from 33 yards out. The Wolves would take a 35-0 lead into the half.

The third quarter scoring would see the Wolves further extend their lead. The Wolves Xavier McClain scored his third rushing TD of the night, this one from 5 yards out with 9:42 left to play in the third quarter. They often say things tend to come in threes, and Sage Surratt would look to prove that theory correct, hauling in his third TD reception of the night from Cordel Littlejohn, this one from 25 yards out. The Wolves would take a 48-0 lead into the final quarter of play.

The Thomasville Bulldogs avoided the opening round shutout with a Byrd to Rich TD pass with 7:41 remaining in the 4th quarter. The Lincolnton Wolves got the win with a 48-13 final score in round 1 of the NCHSAA 2A State Playoffs.

Lawndale - The Crest Chargers traveled to Lawndale to take on a County rival the Burns Bulldogs. Crest has had it's way with the Bulldogs in recent years, but the games are always hard fought, this one would be the same.

Burns took the opening kick-off but could do nothing against a stout Charger defense. After the punt Crest moved down the field reaching the Burns 26, however the Chargers fumbled the ball and the Dogs recovered stalling the Crest drive.

Burns took a 7 - 0 lead on a drive aided by numerous Crest penalties and also the legs of Magale Burris. The Dogs found themselves at the Crest 7. Burns QB Cameron Barbee hit BJ Hopper on the slant for the first score of the game. Later in the second half Crest went on the move again. On a drive where Tavian Brintley  carried  the 7 straight times out of the wildcat. Brintley finally plunged in from a yard out to make the score 7 to 7 at the half.

Crest cam out rolloing in the second half and on the fourth play of the drive QB Cam Peeler found Tyshun Odom from 39 yards out and just like that Crest had a 14 - 7 lead. Burns knotted the score at 14 later in the half as BJ Hopper returned a punt 45 yards for the TD.

After a Burns punt, Crest started a drive inside its own 10. The Chargers moved methodically down the field, and went up 21-7 when Peeler hit Ty Hosch from 32 yards out with a little over 7 minutes to go. Burns could do nothing on it's next two possesions as Crest senior linebacker and Clemson commit Just Foster took over the game. Crest would add a field goal to make the final 24-14 - Chrgers
