North Gaston and Bessemer City both entered tonight's regular season opener with similar triple option offenses. In the end North Gaston's version proved to be much more effective and made far less errors than the Jackets as the Wildcats prevailed with a 42-6 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

North Gaston amassed 400 yards rushing on 40 attempts. The Wildcats also passed for 37 yards on two completions.

Senior fullback Josh Kahlig led the Wildcats rushing attack accounting for 166 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Quarterback Nick Haskin rushed for 113 yards and had rushing touchdowns of 5 and 15 yards. He also completed two passes for 37 yards.

The Wildcat's other two scores came via runs from senior wingback Raquan Brown and sophomore fullback Prince Fox.

North Gaston Sophomore kicker Christian Stewart was a perfect 6-6 on PAT attempts in the game and came up just short on a 52 yard field goal attempt at the end of the 1st half.

Bessemer City was never able to get it's offense rolling and fumbled the ball five times with three of which recovered by the Wildcats. The Jackets were also intercepted once by a North Gaston defense which had the Jackets number for the opening whistle. Bessemer City finished with 202 yards of total offense all of which were earned on the ground.

Bessemer City avoided being shut out as junior Taquez Lane had a one yard scoring plunge early in the 4th quarter.

North Gaston hosts East Rutherford in the home opener for the Wildcats on Friday night in Dallas. Bessemer City is on the road and travels to Cherryville.
