Clover High School has announced the hiring of John Devine as its next head football coach. Devine has served as head coach of South Point High School in Belmont, NC, since 1996. During his years with the Red Raiders, Devine compiled an impressive overall record of 137-55-1, with ten conference championships and two AAA North Carolina State Championships in 2003 and 2009.

Clover principal Mark Hopkins commented, "I have known John Devine for close to fifteen years and have seen his South Point teams up close on many occasions. His teams have always represented their community with class and played the game the way it is intended to be played. We believe he is a great fit for our community and that his past experiences and success will follow him to Clover. We welcome Coach Devine into the Blue Eagle family with open arms."

Devine will replace Jet Turner, who leaves Clover for Wilson Hall, a private school near his home in Sumter, SC. Turner had an impressive eight-year run in Clover, leading the Blue Eagles into the AAAA classification and then to the AAAA Division 2 South Carolina State Championship in 2007. He leaves with a record of 70-29 while at Clover.

"I am very blessed and honored to have been considered, and I’m very excited for the opportunity to coach Clover High School," Devine said, "Clover and the upstate of South Carolina have great football tradition and great coaching. I know we’ll have a challenge each and every Friday night. I am looking forward to that challenge," Devine said.

Clover Athletics Director Carroll Hester, recently named the South Carolina AD of the year, added, "We are very proud of the success our football team has enjoyed under the direction of Coach Jet Turner. At the same time, we are very excited and feel most fortunate to announce that John Devine will be the new Blue Eagle football coach. Coach Devine’s record, the success he has achieved, and the program he has built at South Point High School are tremendous. We look forward to Coach Devine’s leadership, his passion, and his desire to help Clover remain at the top."
